001879 Achilleos, Chrris; Suckling, Nigel -  Sirens: The Second Book of Illustrations By Chris Achilleos. Paper Tiger Press. Good+ condition. some bumps to corners and edges. Achilleos has worked on hundreds of book covers for authors including Edgar Rice Borroughs, Michael Moorcock, Robert E. Howard, J. R. R. Tolkien and from Dr. Who to Star Trek! In the motion picture world he was 'discovered' through his work with the cult animated film Heavy Metal in 1980. And apart from his Science Fiction and Fantasy illustrations, he is also known for his work as an erotic artist. His evocative series of off-beat illustrations for Men Only, known as 'Pinups' have become collectors' items. This book features a little of everything. 001887 Barr, George - Upon The Winds of Yesterday and Other Explorations [The Paintings of George Barr] Donald M. Grant.  Very Good condition Hardcover. Minor shelfwear. Has a tipped in autograph - SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR. Only 2500 copies printed. This monograph contains 57 color illustrations - a fabulous compilation of Barr's best fantasy art. He has been nominated five times for the Hugo Award for Best Fan Artist and won the award in 1968. He was nominated once for Best Professional Artist, and was the winner of a Lensman Award, an award which is voted on by his professional peers. $55

A2907 Cavalleris, Vincenzo - Aldo Patocchi Xylographe [Woodcut artist] A La Baconniere. Very Good condition Hardcover Boards with remnants of glassine still attached; Veignt-neuf beautiful illustrations of his gravures. Covers separating at the top about 1 inch. Aldo Patocchi was born in 1909 in Basilea, Ticino (the Italian speaking region of Switzerland). Self-taught as a woodcut maker, he became one of the most skillful early 20th century practiioners of this medium. Patocchi was a founding member of the group Xylon, which brought together artists making woodblock prints. His work can be found in museums throughout Switzerland and Italy. $45

000791 Froud, Brian - Faeries. Harry N. Abrams, Incorporated. Very Good condition Hardcover. Brian Froud an Alan Lee created FAERIES in 1978. Besides faeries, this book also contains many other folklore creatures such as pixies, trolls, sprites, vampyres, and goblins.185 illustrations, including 147 in full color. Brian Froud's artistic techniques and wisdom of folklore caught the eyes of many, including Jim Henson (creator of the Muppets). In 1978 Jim Henson hired Froud to help create a unique otherworld, better known as THE WORLD OF THE DARK CRYSTAL. The film "The Dark Crystal" was a monumental collaberation of ideas, techniques, and creativity. On the set of "The Dark Crystal"- released in 1982, Brian Froud met Wendy Midener, a puppet designer (creator of the "Gelflings" and Star Wars' "Yoda"). Their son Toby starred in the Henson film, "Labyrinth"- 1986, in which Brian Froud was once again hired as the Conceptual Designer. Froud continued working with Henson on television programs such as "Jim Henson's Storyteller," as well as working on designs for other film/media projects. Froud also began to collaborate with the screenwriter of "Labyrinth," Terry Jones. $26

002054 Laporte, Dominique G. - Christo. Pantheon Books. Very Good condition Hardcover. Translated from the French by Abby Pollak. Profusely illustrated with photographic reproductions, many in color. Christo studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Sofia from 1953-56 and escaped from Prague to the West in early 1957. Jeanne-Claude was educated in France and Switzerland, and earned degrees in philosophy and Latin from the University of Tunis. They were a married couple who created environmental works of art. Their works include the wrapping of the Reichstag in Berlin and the Pont-Neuf bridge in Paris, the 24-mile-long artwork called Running Fence in Sonoma and Marin counties in California, and The Gates in New York City's Central Park. $25

001878 Maitz, Don - First Maitz: Selected Works by Don Maitz. Ursus Imprints.  Very Good condition Hard Cover in Slipcase Limited edition #107/224 SIGNED by Gene Wolfe & Don Maitz. Includes a signed/numbered frameable print. Maitz has received 2 Hugo awards, a special Hugo for Best Original Artwork, a Howard Award, the Silver Medal of Excellence from the Society of Illustrators, the Inkpot Award & 10 Chesley Awards for his creative efforts. His images adorn books, magazines, cards, limited edition prints, puzzles, computer screen savers, and other merchandise. Maitz created and continues the Captain Morgan Spiced Rum character and this book includes that illustration! $100

000950 Oppe, Adolf Paul - Raphael. Methuen and Co. Good condition Hardcover. Outstanding detailed biography of Raphael - Italian RAFFAELLO SANZIO (1483-1520)was a master painter and architect of the Italian High Renaissance. Raphael is best known for his Madonnas and for his large figure compositions in the Vatican in Rome. His work is admired for its clarity of form and ease of composition and for its visual achievement of the Neoplatonic ideal of human grandeur. At the age of 21, he moved to Florence. There he studied the art of Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci. Raphael's art during the High Renaissance leaned toward Mannerist and finally Baroque. During his short life of only 37 years, he painted portraits for Pope Julius II and Baldassare Castiglione, produced a large number of Madonnas, co-constructed St. Peter's Basillica, and even became the Commissioner of Antiquities in Rome. As well, Raphael was hired to paint frescoes at the home of Pope Julius II. There were four rooms and they came to be known as 'The Raphael Stanze'. He is most celebrated for his paintings of angels and madonnas, completely changing the way people think of the latter. He did this by making her appear 'greater than mortal mothers.' xvi + 231 pages followed by 200 full-page plates of Raphael's masterpieces. Two appendices and index. Original blue cloth with frayed areas at corners, edges and spine. Gilt-stamped title on spine and plain embossed decoration. Foxing to edges, endpapers and some margins (faint). 001222 Pasca, Vanni - Vico Magistretti: Designer. Rizzoli; International Publications. Very Good- condition Trade Paperback with edgewear from handling, crease to upper right corner, previous owner gift inscription inside. Magistretti studied architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan and worked in his father’s office, specializing in urban planning and interior design. It was only in the sixties that he specialized in consumer products. He was one of the first Italians to use plastic. Magistretti has received many awards for the products he has created, for Artemide, O-Luce, Cassina. Fully illustrated throughout in color and b&w. 126 pages. $15

A book full of wonderful stories to accompany each character that will help all carvers wishing to improve their work. Tons of photos, patterns, and instructions for 10 different projects and a great study of the human anatomy. Russell is an 11th generation Vermonter from a long line of diverse artisans and craftsmen. Considered by many to be one of the nation's more versatile power carvers, he is a full time woodcarver, internationally known for his ability to carve birds, animals, and the human figure in the round. 001358 Russell, John G. - Braque: with Eighty Illustrations Including Twenty-Four in Colour Selected By Rene Ben Sussan. Phaidon Publishers, Inc. Good condition Hardcover. Georges Braque [1882-1963] in collaboration with Pablo Picasso, was the founder of cubism. After receiving training in Le Havre, Braque went to Paris in 1900. There he studied (1902-04) at the Has two ex-library stamps insided. Académie Humbert and then at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in the studio of Léon Bonnat. Braque's early works (1903-05) were executed in the mood of early impressionism. Greatly influenced by André Derain, Henri Matisse, and Maurice de Vlaminck, Braque entered (1906 or 1907) his Fauve period, in which he used soft, undulating patterns and brilliant colors. 127 pages. 80 illustration plates (including 24 in color). $15

A Kaliedocycle is a three-dimensional ring made from a chain of solid figures enclosed or bonded by four triangles. These kaleidocycles are adaptations of Escher's two-dimensional images of fish, angels, flowers, people, etc., transformed into uniform, interlocking, three-dimensional objects whose patters wrap endlessly.
