Published 1909 by Methuen and Co. in London. First Edition. xvi, 231, [1] 231pp. Good condition original blue cloth covers with gilt-stamped title at spine. The covers show shelfwear at extremities, including fraying in areas - well-loved but overall binding is SOLID. Other than a bit of minor foxing at edges, endpapers and some margins, there are no notable markings to interior.

Includes a list of Raphael's works in the order of the places where they are found, 200 illustrated plates [Plates printed on both sides], Select bibliography, Appendices and Index. Lovely frontispiece portrait of Galatea intact. 

Raphael, a great artist of the Italian Renaissance, was employed by Pope Julius II to complete the fresco decoration of a number of rooms in the Vatican. From 1500 to 1508 he worked throughout central Italy, particularly Florence, where he became a noted portraitist and painter of Madonnas.
